  10. Congratulations and thank you for choosing HandMAIL Internet E-mail 
  11. for PalmPilot and Palm III connected organizers.

  13. With this software, you will be able to Send and Receive e-mail using:
  14.  
  15. - POP3 / SMTP mail systems
  16. - America Online
  17.  
  18. Each of these services is provided by a different HandMAIL application 
  19. to install on your organizer: 
  20.  
  21. - Install "HM-20.prc" for POP3/SMTP hosts
  22. - Install "HM-AOL.prc" AND "AOLScript.pdb" for America Online
  23.  
  24.  
  25. In both cases, HandMAIL connects directly to your mail host, and does not 
  26. require you to synchronize your organizer with a desktop computer in order to 
  27. exchange mail.

  29. HandMAIL uses the PalmPilot Professional or Palm III organizer's integrated
  30. TCP/IP software (PPP) for connections to the Internet. HandMAIL AOL also offers
  31.  standard (non-PPP) modem connections to America Online.

  34. Note on evaluation version

  37. The evaluaation version of HandMAIL is designed to let you validate the 
  38. software in your own environment, with your own Internet Service Provider,
  39. and with your organizer.

  41. You may use the software to connect and to send and receive mail with 
  42. message "subjects" only. Message body is replaced by a generic message
  43. from Smartcode. Once your messages get through, you can be 100% confident 
  44. that the licensed version of HandMAIL will also run flawlessly for you.

  48. - HandMAIL demo versions do not support text file attachments.

  50. - The functions to "delete mail from server" have been disabled entirely
  51.   in order to protect any mail that you may have on the server at the 
  52.   time you test the evaluation software.

  57. Note on POP/SMTP compatibility

  60. HandMAIL is compatible with standard POP3/SMTP services, such as those offered 
  61. by most Internet Service Providers. In addition, mail systems such as Lotus 
  62. Domino 4.5 and MS Exchange Server 5.0 and higher also offer POP3 and SMTP. 
  63. Please check with your service provider or system administrator for 
  64. compatibility.

  70. At this time, HandMAIL AOL does not allow you to read the contents of your 
  71. "Read Mail" folder on the America Online host.

  82. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  85. HandMAIL runs on 3Com PalmPilot Professional, Palm III, IBM WorkPad, and other
  86. compatible devices running Palm OS 2.0 and higher. The applications use 
  87. approximately 170 KB (for SMTP/POP3) and 140 KB (for AOL).

  89. In order to send and receive mail (POP3 and SMTP only) with a Pilot 1000, 
  90. 5000, or PalmPilot Personal organizer, you must use the HandStamp 2.12 
  91. version on this CD-ROM. HandStamp 2.12 is an earlier version of the HandMAIL
  92. software that includes its own integrated PPP stack. The above-mentioned 
  93. organizers did not include PPP.

  95. If you need to install HandStamp 2.12, please read the user documentation
  96. in the directory "HandStamp.old" on this CD.
